Discusses Increased Military Support for Ukraine
Lithuanian Deputy Defense Minister, Žilvinas Tomkus, participated in an EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting focusing on defense issues, particularly increased military support for Ukraine.
The EU aims to provide Ukraine with 1 million 155mm ammunition units within a year and is discussing a proposed 20 billion euro allocation for the Support for Ukraine Fund under the European Peace Facility.
Deputy Minister Tomkus emphasized the importance of swift action, urging EU states to accelerate the establishment of the EU Rapid Deployment Capacity outlined in the EU Strategic Compass. He also called for member states to join Lithuania’s demining coalition, with firm commitments from Denmark, Spain, Iceland, Kosovo, Moldova, Hungary, Germany, and Sweden.
