German Brigade to Boost Lithuania’s Security

Vilnius, October 20, 2023 – In a significant development for Lithuania, a major portion of the German brigade is set to be stationed in the country by 2026. This collaboration between Lithuania and Germany aims to enhance defense capabilities and offers new prospects for expats living in Lithuania.
Minister of National Defense, Arvydas Anušauskas, revealed, “We’ve already outlined the structure and identified deployment locations for the new brigade. The German brigade will conduct its training and exercises at the Rukla and Rūdninkai training grounds.”
This deployment is scheduled for 2026, and the signing of the deployment plan is expected by December 22, 2023.
An intriguing aspect of this initiative is that some German soldiers will relocate with their families, with a commitment from the Ministry to provide improved civilian infrastructure, including enhanced connections with Germany.
The recent Joint Lithuanian-German Working Group meeting addressed various deployment aspects, from accommodation to operational planning, showcasing Lithuania’s commitment to a state-of-the-art infrastructure.
This expansion underlines Germany’s leadership in Lithuania’s NATO battalion since 2017. As an expat in Lithuania, this news signifies both enhanced security and a welcoming environment, reinforcing Lithuania as an appealing destination.
