Vilnius Airport might Rename to Airport of M. K. Čiurlionis
Lithuania is preparing to honor the 150th birthday of the acclaimed artist and composer Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis with a series of events planned for 2025. Among the discussions is the potential renaming of Vilnius Airport to Čiurlionis Airport.
Gabrielė Žaidytė, an advisor to the Prime Minister on cultural matters, mentioned plans for concerts, exhibitions, and publications in the commemoration program, aiming for finalization by spring.
Efforts are underway to form a commission led by Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė to highlight Čiurlionis’ legacy. This includes discussions about showcasing his works abroad, like a proposed exhibition in Japan in 2026.
The budget for next year’s celebration plans to allocate €300,000, with a proposal to increase it to €466,000. Funds will support events honoring Čiurlionis’ artistic contributions and his 150th birth anniversary.
Čiurlionis, a renowned Lithuanian artist and composer, born on September 22, 1875, is celebrated for his paintings, graphic works, and musical compositions. His legacy remains a focal point in Lithuania’s cultural landscape.
